USB CHARGING LIGHT

BRIEF

Based off of the current pattern night light line, design a desk-top light with USB charging capabilities. Find a way to incorporate pattern in an innovative and updated way.

Jasco currently has a line of night lights that uses a metallic-finished plastic cover over a semi-transparent lens to create light patterns. They wanted to explore new ways that light can interact with pattern in a desktop version of this light.

IDEATION

FORM EXPLORATION

After reviewing several possible forms, the managers and I settled on a three different forms to explore, with our favorite being the triangular form and the sphere. I 3D printed each one and began testing size and patterns.

FUNCTIONALITY

I explored charging port positions, button shapes, and functionality

PATTERN EXPLORATION

As an alternate to the plastic molded pattern cover, I experimented with ways to insert patterns inside the light using laser cut paper and semi transparent 3D printed forms.
